One of the things I love about the U.S. is the way that public debates are carried out on the back of cars.

And on all sorts of topics.

From Iraq:

To the environment:

And of course, the president:

(Ok, so I couldn’t find any pro-Bush stickers, but I’m sure if I spent a bit more time in the South I’d find plenty)

Yes, it’s loud and a bit tacky but there’s also something grand about wearing your ideals so openly. People know where you stand. It brings disagreements out from the quiet darkness of polite avoidance and into the sunshine of democracy and debate.

Differences are not to be hidden, but lived with! Discussed! Embraced!

(Right. Got a little carried away there. Forgot this was a marketing blog. Ok, so, here’s the marketing blog tie-up:)

What would your brand put on a bumper sticker? Do you stand for anything people care about?

My favorite bumper seen since moving to California is:

“Frodo lost. Bush got the ring”
